...and then we took a ride around the lake. On another misty, rainy day it was still beautiful. Lake Tahoe is the sixth largest lake in the US--thirty nine trillion gallons of water there. Only the Great Lakes are larger here in the states. And at a depth of six hundred feet, the water only gets to thirty-nine degrees down there in the summertime and is incredibly pure. Sixty-three streams flow in to the lake and only one, the Truckee River, flows out, but the lake's waters never reach the ocean.
Emerald Bay from Inspiration Point was lovely but far from emerald. Back in the day, steamers brought wealthy vacationers from Sacramento and San Francisco to stay in rustic yet elegant lodges along the shore of the lake.
As for us, we had a picnic in the rain in the car--Rick's now famous turkey sandwiches that have been sustaining us for weeks! Oh--by the way, he does make them fresh every day.... :o)
While I spent some time painting, Rick went to see Edgewood Tahoe, above, site of a PGA event in July. Above is the 18th hole....
The lake changes momentarily from the above...
...to this imge of the lake as we sat in Airondack chairs gratefully absorbing the sun and fresh air late this afternoon. We've pretty much eaten up all the leftovers in the fridge and tomorrow we head for Yosemite National Park. According to JJ it will be the highlight of our entire trip--can't wait!!!
