The landscape was lovely, flat farmland, the crops mainly pumpkins, corn, sunflowers and grapes...
Prague is a BIG city and of couse we got lost. Our second Good Samaritan guided us to our hotel in his car and drove away with a wave of his hand...
Once settled in our hotel, we set off to see the city...
the Jan Hus Memorial
the famous astrological clock
and the most "behind the Iron Curtain architectural style" building I could find.
Prague was not bombed and remained undamaged in the second World War, so its many old buildings still stand, including the beautiful St. Giles Church, home to Dominican Friars...
We had dinner in Kolkovna Celnice, an original Pilsner Urquell restaurant on Republic Square. Even with typical Czech food, it somehow reminded me of Durgin Park in Boston.
In fact, if I don't cut back on the pork, veal, chicken and turkey schnitzel, the potato puree, pancakes and spirals, the beer, the sausages, the rolls and bread and butter and the three solid meals a day, I will be in big trouble by the time this trip is over.
The Fleming in Vienna was our only four-star hotel. Here in Prague, we are at the Atlantic--a bit more bare bones but totally adequate...
Nighty night!
