Kolub, Red and Bryce Canyons

We drove about 300 miles today, first to Zion Kolub Canyon, on our way to Zion National Park proper only to learn that a snow storm was heading toward Bryce Canyon and if we wanted to get there we'd better go TODAY!  Kolub was amazing but the day was so gray that no photo could capture it.
After visiting Kolub, we recalibrated and headed north on 15 to Cedar City where we missed the first of several turns and lost a bit of time.  We stopped at Subway for a split footlong turkey, bacon, cheese and everyting sub for our picnic at Bryce.
On the way, following the Kolub ranger's directions, we headed east on 14 and discovered, at the higher altitude, we were back to winter...

The sun came out as we entered Red Canyon and we were surprised again by unexpected beauty....

Soooo inspiring!  Red for the red rocks...

...and an actual bridge over the highway!

Bryce Canyon is indescribably, stupendously beautiful. There are really no words.  We've visited the Grand Canyon and it has nothing on Bryce.  Look....

...one of the many dramatic views of the canyon...

...many trees losing their ground to the forces of nature, teeter on the edge...

...and another natural bridge.

After our mind boggling visit we headed home to New Harmony, picking up a Rand McNally Road Atlas, a travel mug (for me who drinks my morning coffee until noon), an ipod car connector, a rotisserie chicken and the rest of our airbnb dinner.
We totally missed the Democratic Debate--maybe not a bad thing--unable to find CNN on our tv here and reluctant to ask our host, Rob, for help.
So, tomorrow, we head  out again to Zion National Park.  Rain is forecast but we have our slickers and we'll make the best of it.
